TSP Plan News was updated on December 3, 2007:
Holiday processing schedule — The TSP will use a special processing schedule for end-of-the-year 2007 transactions. The schedule is available from the TSP Web site (www.tsp.gov).
IRS contribution limits for 2008 — For 2008, the IRS permits you to contribute up to $15,500 in tax-deferred money to the TSP. If you are a member of the uniformed services and serve in a designated combat zone during the year, your maximum total contributions from all sources (tax-deferred and tax-exempt) is $46,000. If you will be age 50 or older during 2008 and you have made — or will make — the maximum amount of tax-deferred contributions for the year ($15,500), you may also contribute up to $5,000 in additional "catch-up" contributions.
Your TSP account number — In October, TSP account numbers replaced Social Security numbers as the TSP's primary method of identifying individual TSP accounts. You must now use your account number to access your TSP account through the TSP Web site (www.tsp.gov) and the ThriftLine (1-877-968-3778). You will also need to provide your account number on most TSP forms. Your current Web password and ThriftLine Personal Identification Number (PIN) did not change as a result of the switch from Social Security numbers to account numbers. If you have not received your account number, you can use the Account Access section of the TSP Web site (www.tsp.gov) to request that the TSP mail it to you again. For security reasons, the TSP does not give out account numbers by telephone or e-mail. Be sure your TSP address of record is correct before you make your request.
Reporting address changes — If you are actively employed in Federal service or the uniformed services, make sure to inform the HR Department of the change so it can report it to the AO and they will download the information to TSP. If you are no longer employed by the U.S. District Court, report your new address directly to the TSP via the National Finance Center(NFC), either by using the Account Access section of the TSP Web site (www.tsp.gov) or by submitting Form TSP-9 (TSP-U-9 if you are a member of the uniformed services).
