The Hon. Warren W. Eginton Justice Institute is a free week-long summer camp for incoming 10th and 11th graders held at the Hartford courthouse every July. Registration is available in February.

The camp introduces high school students to the federal court and prepares students to compete in mock trial competitions. This year the institute was held July 15-19, 2024. Twenty-nine students from 16 schools across Connecticut participated in instructional panels about civil and criminal litigation, public speaking, and professionalism; took field trips to Connecticut’s Old State House and the Connecticut Supreme Court; visited a United States Marshals Service cell block; observed a sentencing and naturalization; met probation officers; and visited with a police K-9 unit and the bomb squad. Students met and learned from several lawyers and state and federal judges and prepared for their mock trials, coached by law students participating in the Court’s summer internship program. The week concluded with mock trial competitions where the students applied the skills they learned throughout the week.
