UNPAID INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
The United States District Court of the District of Connecticut offers volunteer, unpaid internships throughout the year.
The Clerk's Office Internship Program is available to high school and college students who are interested in learning about the work of the federal court. Interns acquire first-hand federal courthouse experience through their exposure to the various roles of the many people who serve the public and support federal judges both inside and out of the courtrooms. Interns shadow each of the Clerk's Office's several departments, including Jury, Finance, IT, and Operations.
Some federal judges offer internships to college and law students. Such opportunities are posted on the individual Judges' webpages located under the Judges’ Information tab of this webpage.
Interns participating in the Clerk's Office Internship Program will gain exposure to the inner workings of the court. Interns may:
- Observe a wide variety of hearings and trials in civil and criminal cases to develop familiarity with the federal judicial process.
- Job shadow court-system professionals, including Judges and Clerk's Office staff, to understand the federal court system.
- Assist Clerk's Office staff as needed in handling jury selections and special events, such as naturalization ceremonies.
- Assist Clerk's Office staff in collecting, maintaining, and processing case information.
- Perform basic research to support the work of Clerk's Office.
- Organize, copy and/or scan legal pleadings, briefs, motions, court records and correspondence for Clerk's Office staff.
- Participate in and support community outreach programs held at the courthouse.
- Assist with the Honorable Warren W. Eginton Justice Institute summer camp program.
To participate in the Clerk's Office Internship Program, a candidate must:
- Be a U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the United States.
